Catnip

Catnip, which is a herb from the mint family, contains the essential oil nepetalactone, which triggers a temporary behavioural response in many cats, making them playful and hyperactive. The effects typically last for 10-15 minutes. Not all cats are affected by catnip.

• Catnip toys can encourage play and exercise.
• Rubbing catnip on a scratching post can encourage a cat to use it instead of furniture.
• Spray on a pet carrier to help an anxious cat acclimate for vet visits.
